Is it REALLY illegal to float a check? I mean, can they actually catch you? For example:

I want chinese food.
I have no money in the bank.
I write a check for $11 to the Chinese place.
I get paid in two days.
The check clears after I get paid.

Is that really illegal?

If it was, I'd be a dead man. I've bounced many, MANY checks. Not even a slap on the wriste - just an extra charge. As long as you're ready to accept the fact that they'll charge you out your butt for the bounced check, you're fine.
